Grey Matter

Grey Matter Store

This site was initially set up in order for myself and the rest of the 3rd year graphics group to raise money for our degree show. We decided to design and create a range of products to sell on our website.
In order to keep things simple we stuck to a black and white theme, which lead me to use a cow in my designs. I illustrated the phrase, ‘Holy Cow’ which I thought would be a funny design for a t-shirt, tote bag or poster.

All designs were screen printed by hand onto t-shirts or tote bags.

It took a lot of hard work but the final prints we well worth the effort.

This store is currently closed but it will be back very soon with a showcase of all 3rd year Graphic Design students from Staffordshire University.  www.greymatterstore.com.

Scale

I was given a single word  ‘Scale’, from which I had to generate a proposition.
My proposition (what I intended to say) was, "What are the extremes of the human form" which lead me to create a full size tailor/dressmakers pattern for the ‘Extreme Man’. The pattern looks at the scale of difference in human proportions as well as showing just how far people seek to push their bodies to the limits and virtually tailor their contours. This piece was exhibited in March 2010 at Staffordshire University.

H.G Wells book covers

I recently designed some H.G Wells book covers for a D&AD competition. The aim was to create a set of covers that worked well together. My concept brings together a set of icons which symbolically relate to main themes or events within each story:

Tono Bungay - Tonic (bubbles)
Love & Mr Lewisham - Love (heart)
Mr Polly - Destruction (flames)
Ann Veronica - Freedom (butterfly)
Each book also had references to science some of which were subtle. I used structured line/diagrammatical marks, repeat patterns and fluorescent colours to illustrate this.

Annual Report

I had this Anuual Report on my shelf for a while and I finally got around to photographing it for a competition launched by Grafik magazine. The crafting, metal work, layouts and photography were all produced by myself, which was hard work but very rewarding.

This is the first time I've ever created a blog, so bear with me.
I'll be adding design work and other info about myself and what I do very soon.
